Initial appointees to PCRL Executive Committee announced

The first appointees to the Pacific Coast Rugby League executive committee and its subcommittees have been confirmed and can now be announced. This will bring the number of volunteers helping to run the league from the six board members to twenty four individuals across key areas. We are still accepting applications and nominations for the positions of Executive Director, League Secretary, Utah Regional Officer, and Welfare Officer, as well as applications to join any of the subcommittees. Chief Regional Officer & California Regional Officer - Robert Beasley

Robert Beasley Jr., the president and co-founder of the Santa Rosa Dead Pelicans Rugby Club and a passionate rugby player for the past 15 years will be taking up the roles of California Regional Officer and Chief Regional Officer. Dedicated to the growth of the sport in California and the US as a whole, his aim is to keep pushing the boundaries of rugby league together!

Oregon Regional Officer - Nicolas Sarabia

Nicolas Sarabia was born and raised in San Jose, CA where his original rugby experience was playing high school rugby union for the South Bay Exiles RFC. He played two years collegiate rugby for San Jose State University before starting his own rugby social media presence and blog, founding Life Love Rugby (LLR). In 2012 Nick met Chris Fisher from Los Gatos who founded the Los Gatos Youth Rugby program that has programs for kids ages 6 to 18. Undertaking many positions over the next few years; from assistant high school coach and at times taking on the role of head coach, to recruiting for the Lions. In addition, Nick played a key role in helping spread the reach of the LGYR player pool throughout the south bay. In 2021 Nick first started Oregon Rugby League, and re-kicked off ORL at the end of 2022. ORL will play its inaugural match in the summer of 2023.

John Ashton is a rugby league match official originally from the UK. He has over 20 years experience as a match official, ranging from the UK national conference to Championship and Super League, and most recently to refereeing in the PCRL.

Coaching & Education Officer - Chad Cooper

Chad’s life changed in 2015 when he became a rugby league fan. Growing up in Indiana, he wasn't exposed to this wonderful sport, but for the past 8 years he has become obsessed with the greatest game in the world. The first few years it was rather lonely being a rugby league fan here, then he was introduced to Ady Cooney and the LA Mongrel. You may know Chad from the PCRL commentary, and he has always been interested in the officiating aspect of the sport. That's why he has volunteered to head the coaching and education department of Pacific Coast Rugby League, taking the lead in organizing refereeing and coaching qualifications. He received his Level One coaching certificate and went through the referee course a year later. In Chad’s words, “I know that Rugby League can change people's lives. I want to give back what I've gotten from the Rugby League community.”

Women’s Development Officers - Amber Welsh & Mark Stockman

Amber Welsh is a relative newcomer to rugby league, but has fully embraced the sport, and is now Captain of the San Diego Barracudas. Amber’s passion lies in creating a dynamic platform of opportunities for women in the sport of rugby league. She is aiming to unlock the full potential of female athletes, paving the way for a future where the roar of the crowd celebrates every woman's triumph on the rugby field.

Mark Stockman started his rugby league in the North East of England playing in the then Gateshead Thunder Academy, playing youth international rugby league, before moving to Sheffield Eagles. He started coaching whilst still playing, and coached within the NERL representative teams in the UK before spending time with the Wakefield Trinity Super League academy as well as University Rugby League. He is currently coach at Nottingham Outlaws Women’s team competing in the National League competitions.

Youth Development Officer - Elijah Welsh

Elijah Welsh has played rugby for 7 years, rugby league specifically for the last 2. He has played on the Oceanside Chiefs, and captained the Camp Pendleton Ghostriders and the San Diego Barracudas. As the Youth Development Officer for Pacific Coast Rugby League, Eli is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of talented athletes and promoting the growth of the sport at the grassroots level.

Creative Officer - Ty Lewis

Ty Lewis attended Appalachian State University, University of Pennsylvania at Bloomsburg & the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he wrestled Division 1 and graduated with a double major (Political Science concentration in Public Policy & Public Administration) and double minor (Marketing and History). He is an award winning actor, writer, and producer under the Loose Change Productions banner where he is CEO of operations. He is playing rugby league for the LA Bandidos of the PCRL and rugby union for the Belmont Shore Rugby Club of SCRFU.

League Strategy Officer - Matt Goschnick

Matt has extensive experience at all levels of rugby league in Australia from a coaching development and administrative point of view and as a player in a semi professional capacity. Holding a Masters in Financial Planning a MBA and a Bachelors in Sports Management, we look forward to having Matt as a part of PCRL’s growth and development strategy, while drawing on his knowledge and experience in growing the game.
